Africa in Development Series

Series Outline

African development remains a preoccupation of policy craftsmen as well as a multiplicity of other domestic and international actors. All these players have been engaged in the quest for solutions to the myriad problems associated with poverty and underdevelopment. Academic and scholarly responses to these problems have built on the traditional and non-traditional analytical frameworks; they have promoted a multidimensional discourse on, for example, conflict management, peace and security systems, HIV and AIDS, democratic governance, and the implications of globalisation.
The Africa in Development Series is designed to encourage innovative thinking on a broad range of development issues. Its scope extends to all fields of intellectual inquiry with the aim of highlighting the advantages of a synergistic perspective on the challenges of and opportunities for development in the continent. Of particular interest are studies that have a heavy empirical content and a bearing on policy debates. Also, studies that question theoretical orthodoxies, while being grounded on concrete developmental concerns, will be highly considered.
Proposals for collection of papers as well as monographs from recent PhDs, especially from established scholars, are welcome for inclusion in the series. Book proposals should be sent to Dr. Graham Speake at the following e-mail address: oxford@peterlang.com
